What is Dorm2Dorm all about?
Dorm2Dorm was founded with the idea that students have enough to worry about without added headache from summer storage. Worrying about where, when, and how to store your stuff was a concern for many students at a time when finals were in full swing. D2D eliminates this hardship. Students are at school to learn, not to worry about storage.

Why don’t I just get a few people to share a storage room with me?
Dorm2Dorm does all the work for you. Let’s say you do the work to get four or five friends to share a room with you. Good thinking, but D2D is able to do that using the largest storage rooms available, sharing not only the room with those four or five people but also your entire school. So that means we are able to provide everything for you at that same price. Would your friends deliver boxes, pick up your storage items, and deliver everything right to your front door the following year?

Of course! Our company is named Dorm2Dorm, but we understand that some students will not be living at dorms, and that’s completely ok with us. We will pick up and deliver to you even if you live in an apartment, a personal home, or on a yacht.

Reservations

How do I make a reservation?

For Pickup reservations, you can reserve online by clicking on the Sign Up link at the top corner of the website.

For Delivery reservations (storage return), you can reserve online by clicking on the Delivery link at the bottom of the website.

Both forms will ask you for information relevant to your reservation such as your contact information, reservation date, time, and location. Simply fill out the requested information and you’re all set.

However, we also offer reservations by phone and email if you feel more comfortable speaking to a person.

Can you go over the online reservation process?

Click on the “Sign Up” link on the navigation bar. This will bring you to the pickup reservation form.

The form is split into 3 steps:  Contact Details, Supplies, and Pickup Details.

Below is a breakdown of all the requested information in each step.

Step 1: Contact Details

Student name: Self explanatory. This is the field for the student’s full name.

Nickname: Fill out this field if you would like to be called by a nickname. This is just for ease of communication.

School: Select the school that the student is currently attending

Phone Number: The student’s phone number.

Email: Please fill this field with the email that you or the student uses most often.

Alternate Contact Name: A friend or parent’s name that we can contact if the student is unable to answer or receive calls.

Alternate Phone Number: A friend or parent’s phone number that we can call if the student is unable to answer or receive calls.

Coupon Code: If you received a coupon by email or text, enter it in this field.

Referred By: If a someone referred you to us, please include their name.

How did you hear about us?: Let us know how you found out about Dorm2Dorm.

Comments: If you have any requests or comments regarding your reservation, please fill out this field.

Step 2: Packing Supplies

If you are using your own packing supplies, you can skip this step. Otherwise, please enter a number for each supply that you’d like to purchase from us. Remember that we have a 100% buyback guarantee for Dorm2Dorm packing supplies, so we recommend ordering extra just to be safe. Return the unused Dorm2Dorm supplies to us and we will refund you 100% of the purchase price. Each box is $10, tape is $10, mattress bags are $40.

Boxes: Dorm2Dorm boxes come in one standard size (17″x17″x22″).

Tape: Each roll of tape can cover approximately 5 Dorm2Dorm boxes.

Mattress Bags: Typically used to protect mattresses, mattress pads/toppers, and bedding. We normally sell full size bags, but you may call or email us to specify a size.

Shipping Address: This is the shipping/mailing address of your current college residence. We may have to ship the supplies to you if you are unable to receive them in person.

Step 3: Reservation Details

Pickup Date: Select the date for your pickup.

Service Plan: Select either Elite or Economy.

Arrival Window: Select the arrival window for our staff. The Elite service plan has 2 Hour arrival windows from 8am to 8pm. The Economy service plan has 4 hour arrival windows from 8am to 8pm.

Pickup Address: Enter the location where our staff will meet you for the pickup. This is usually your college residence address.

What are you storing?: Our staff uses this information to provide you with an estimate if you request one. Students usually change their mind about what they want to store, so what you fill in for this field has no relevance to what you will actually store.

We will need your name, email address, telephone number, current address (the address where your items will be picked up), preferred date, arrival time, and either a Visa or MasterCard.

You will receive an email with your reservation details when you make your reservation for the first time. The email is sent out within 5 minutes of clicking on the “Submit Reservation” button, so please check your spam folder if you do not see the email in your inbox within 5 minutes of submitting the reservation. A text message will also be sent to your phone number with your reservation details.

We want to make sure that every customer receives the proper attention he or she deserves with our service, so we removed the online account access. If you have a question or need to make changes, then please feel free to email us at info@dorm2dorm.com or call us at 646.476.5763.

We recommend booking at least 3 days in advance.

There is a $100 cancellation fee if you cancel your appointment less than 24 hours before your scheduled pickup. Also, any materials that have been shipped or delivered must be paid in full and will no longer be eligible for our buyback policy.

There is a $50 fee will incur if the pickup is more than 8 miles from campus for the first 8 miles plus $3 per additional mile. However, we are flexible with the distance, so please contact if you have a specific request.

Any pickup or delivery falling outside of our normal pickup or delivery windows will incur a fee of $100 up to $500 depending on the location, time, date, and order size. You can learn more about free pickup and delivery windows by clicking here.

Spring Semester (for summer break): Free pickups begin on the first day of final exams and end on the last day of final exams for the Spring Semester.

Extensions for free pickups are provided if you are required to stay until/past commencement. Free pickups can also be provided if you need to leave prior to final exams.

Pickups scheduled outside of this period will incur a fee of $100 up to $500 depending on the location, time, date, and order size.

Fall Semester (for winter break): Free pickups begin on the first day of final exams and end on the last day of final exams. No pickups on Christmas day.

The Early Delivery Window begins the Friday and/or Saturday the weekend before the first day of classes for the Fall Semester.

The Standard Window is three days prior to the first day of classes for the Fall Semester.

The Late Window is the Friday and/or Saturday the weekend after classes begin for the Fall Semester.

Any deliveries outside of these windows will incur a fee of $100 up to $500 depending on the location, time, date, and order size.

Packing Supplies and Packing

We currently sell packing tape, mattress bags, and boxes.

You won’t really know until you begin packing, but we always recommend ordering extra just to be on the safe side.

We have a Buyback Guarantee, so you can return any unused supplies that you ordered from us for a full refund at your pickup.

We will accept any unused packing material that you purchased from us, but they must be in their original packaging.

Shipping and handling, however, will not be refunded.

East Coast:

We will ship your packing materials via UPS about a week before the first day of your finals. Shipments usually take up to 3 business days to arrive. Please be sure to provide us with your mailing address when placing your order to avoid any delays.

Alternatively, we can drop off supplies in person on a designated day about 2 weeks before final exams. If you are unable to receive the supplies in person, then we will have to ship them to you through the mail.

West Coast:

We will deliver boxes and supplies about a week before the first day of your finals. You don’t necessarily have to be in your room when we deliver your items, but we will attempt to contact you by phone when the delivery is ready. If you are unavailable at your dorm, then we’ll just drop them off outside your door or the next best alternative, lobby, etc. Either way, we’ll leave you a voicemail letting you know where they have been dropped.

Shipping and handling fee applies when packing supplies are shipped to you by your request.

The shipping and handling fee is typically between $20 and $35 per shipment.

The price varies with your location, but you can find out the exact price from the checkout page.

Not at all. The supplies are just there as an extra convenience to our customers.

You are free to wrap, pack, or box your belongings with packing material not purchased from our company.

For reference, our standard sized box can store

  • A set of beddings (pillow and comforter)
  • A small monitor or tv (about 17 inches)
  • ~55 textbooks
  • 10 pairs of shoes

No, you don’t have to fit your mattress in a box. We have mattress bags that are specially designed to protect mattresses.

For other items that generally do not go into boxes, we recommend getting bubble wrap to prepare them for storage.

You can tape a piece of paper onto your items, or you can print one of our pre-made labels found on our Forms page.

If you ordered one of our boxes, then you can simply use the printed fields on the box itself.

Pickup

Spring Semester (for summer break): Free pickups begin on the first day of final exams and end on the last day of final exams for the Spring Semester.

Yes, we can pickup anywhere within a 3 mile radius from any campus (we know some universities have several campuses) without charging any extra fees.

A $50 fee will incur if the pickup is more than 3 miles from campus for the first 3 miles plus $3 per additional mile. However, we are flexible with the distance, so please contact if you have a specific request.

Make sure all of your belongings are properly packed and labeled with

  3. Phone Number

A piece of paper with the above information taped to your items will suffice.

We will also send you a detailed text the day before your pickup with a lot of important information.

You can request a change to your reservation at any time. However, it is recommended to make the changes at least 48 hours in advance to your reservation date.

It is highly recommended that you contact us as soon as you know of any upcoming changes by texting us at 646.713.1409.

Please make sure your mini fridge has been defrosted and emptied before your pickup.

We offer packing service for $150 per hour. (subject to availability)

If you think you’ll need help with packing, try to let us know in advance, so we can schedule a separate appointment for you.

We require all clients to be ready at the beginning of their pickup or delivery windows. If you’re not prepared during your scheduled pickup or delivery time, a surcharge will incur on your account.

If you delay the pickup team on the day of there will be a charge of $100/hour delay.

If you need to reschedule your delivery just let us know at least 48 hours in advance at no additional charge.

Any client that requires Dorm2Dorm to finish packing or entirely pack any one, or some, of their items will be subject to a $150 per hour fee.

We give customers an arrival/waiting window for their pickups. Our movers are allowed to arrive at any time within the window without being considered late.

For example, a pickup time of 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM means your belongings will be picked up at any time between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM.

For Elite members, the arrival window is reduced to 2 hours.

Our movers will contact you about 15 minutes before they arrive to pick up your belongings.

Please be sure to answer your phone to avoid delays with your pickup.

Our movers will be rerouted to your location as soon as possible, but you will need to notify us as soon as possible.

No, you do not have to be physically present at the pickup. Instead, you may designate a friend, family member, or an acquaintance as your proxy. We just need a person to confirm the pickup of your belongings and to sign off on the paperwork.

Storage and Billing

You will be charged a $20 fee to confirm your pickup. This is a one time fee.

Storage payment begins on the day of your pickup. The billing cycle renews the same day every month until you are ready to receive your delivery.

We accept all major credit (American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa) and debit cards. Electronic checks (E-Checks) are accepted for monthly storage fees by providing your Type of Account, Routing number, and Account number. A 5% service fee will be added on any monthly storage fees paid using a credit card or debit card.

Your monthly storage fee is based on the size of each boxed or unboxed item that you store: small, medium, large, and extra-large.

We cannot list all possible items for each size category, but here are the general rules:

Small Item

  • Up to 256 square inches
  • Up to 25 lbs
  • Stackable

Medium Item

  • Up to 576 square inches
  • Up to 49 lbs
  • Semi-Stackable

Large Item

  • Larger than 576 square inches
  • Up to 75lbs
  • Semi-stackable

Extra-Large Item

  • Furniture
  • Above 75lbs

For students that have stored for more than 3 months, the final storage payment is prorated. If you have a credit balance on your account just text us at 646.713.1409 to request that be refunded to your account.

Late fees begin accrual one day after your payment due date at a rate of $1 per day past the due date. The maximum late fee is $30 per overdue storage month.

Delivery

The Early Delivery Window begins the about one week before the first day of classes for the fall semester.

The Standard Window is three days prior to the first day of classes for the fall semester.

The Late Window is the Friday and/or Saturday the weekend after classes begin for the fall semester.

Any deliveries outside of these windows will incur between a $100 fee to $500 fee depending on the circumstances.

We will contact you about a month before your classes begin to set up your delivery.

However, you may set up your delivery at any time from the Delivery request page.

You can request to have a partial delivery by letting us know which items are to stay in storage and which items are to be delivered. If you would like a second delivery that will be subject to the out of window fees of $100 up to $500 depending on the location, time, date, and order size.

That’s no problem! We will deliver to your new address even if it’s not at a dorm.

Notify us in advance if you need to push back your delivery.

Our movers will contact you about 15 minutes before they arrive to deliver your belongings.

Please be sure to answer your phone to avoid delays with your delivery.

Don’t panic.

We might have to reschedule to the last time slot, but we’ll try our best to reroute your delivery to a more agreeable time.

Notify us as soon as you are able confirm that your item is missing.

Shipping

Yes, we can ship your items using a major shipping provider (UPS, FedEx, or USPS). There will be a 25% convenience fee on top of the shipping and handling charged by the shipping provider. Plus a flat $60 fee to organize the shipment regardless of the size of the shipment.

Transferring Schools

Yes, we can pick up from one school and deliver to another without any issues.

If you are transferring to a school that is in another state, then we can ship your stored items using a major shipping provider to your new residence.

If you are transferring to another school or area that we also service, then we can ship the belongings to our local storage facility and hand deliver your belongings at your new location.

Discounts and Promotions
